Review: Open at the Art Festival At Hay
Saatchi Review
Guardian Review
Well done to all who braved the inclement weather to come to Hay last weekend – as promised it was a wonderful few days full of fierce debate, exciting art, fantastic live performances and late night sessions. Anthony Haden Guest, Ben Lewis, Richard Wentworth and Godfrey Barker reigned supreme in the debates while Richard Strange, Plaster of Paris, Clean Bandit and Paper Cinema dazzled the audience as the night drew in. All set in the unique Globe at Hay – a converted 18th Century Methodist church – the speakers and festival goers were surrounded by work provided by Hive project, Eleanor Lindsay-Fynn, Scott London, Kate Raggett, Felix Braun, curator Gavin Ramsey and Open Gallery.
Open’s video paintings took pride of place on the main wall of the chapel space. The large scale projections brought the Globe to life with works by five artists of the Artscape Project. In addition Open premiered Hilary Lawson’s Now Revisited Revisited - a triptych incorporating elements from Lawson’s five act immersive performance and interactive video work Now Revisited.
